Halloween Sewing Patterns: Ghost Keychain
Looking for some easy Halloween sewing patterns or maybe some fun kids sewing projects? Well, our ghost keychain is a really fun and easy sewing project that would be great for just about anyone. We used our ghost pattern to make a keychain, but this applique pattern could also be used on many other things. You could applique the ghost onto T-shirts, trick-or-treat bags, decorative pillows or even quilts. And if you were looking for some simple bead craft ideas, this pattern also includes a little beadwork for added fun. We hope you like this idea!
- Felt: orange, black, white
- Embroidery floss: orange, black, white, purple
- Seed beads: purple and white
- Ribbon: black or orange (at least 3/8″ wide, 3″ long)
- Scissors
- Needle
- Thin bead needle
- Key ring
- Sewing pattern
Print and cut out the ghost keychain pattern. Now trace and cut out the felt as follows:
Ghost – white
Eyes – black
BOO letters – black
Background – orange (cut 2)
Note: The eyes could be punched out using a standard hole punch.
Stitch the ghost onto just one of the background pieces. Sew it on using the backstitch in white thread. Next line up the eyes and stitch them on. Then sew on a white seed bead for each pupil. Using the pattern as a guide, stitch on the mouth using the backstitch in black thread. It might be helpful to lightly draw the mouth on first with a pencil. See photo A.
Stitch the “BOO” letters on using the running stitch in black thread. Then, if you want, you can embellish the letters with purple seed beads.
See photo B.
Now line up the front and back orange pieces. To stitch these together so that the back will look as nice as the front, use the running stitch. As you stitch across the top, be sure you have your ribbon (3″ long, folded in half) tucked between the two layers of felt. Leave about 1/4″ of ribbon sticking out. See photo C. And if you want a solid stitched line, then after sewing all the way around once, sew around a second time to fill in the gaps. See photo D.
Hey Kids: use it as a zipper pull on your backpack!
